Observation Narrative
This documents an excellent example of a saturated Coastal Plain ravine bottom with soils influenced by Pliocene shell deposits. Several unusual or disjunct species, including Carex tetanica, Carex granularis var. granularis, Scirpus lineatus, Caltha palustris (outside plot), and Pedicularis lanceolata (outside plot) attest to the high Ca levels (5265 ppm) in soil samples collected. Drainage is braided, and microtopography characterized by hummock-and-hollow heterogeneity in this habitat.
