Observation Narrative
This seasonal depression pond has slight vegetation differences along its length. East of the plot, Acer rubrum increases and there are some sizeable Pinus taeda. Not far east from the plot, the pond narrows to a channel. The significance of this on the character of the pond, and the amount of input it contributes is unknown. Directly west of the plot, the pond is deeper (less Carex joorii) with smaller Acer rubrum and Nyssa sylvatica. The plot location was selected because of its intermediate hydrologic conditions and vegetation.
Directions: Pond 46 in Colonial National Historical Park, Yorktown. Pond 46 is S of the French cemetery and N of Tour Drive, near Washington's headquarters where the Tour Rd. turns E. See map.
