Observation Narrative
Oak / Heath Forest on finger of land jutting out into marsh. This forest has an open canopy with almost continuous cover of low heath shrubs. Beech is a tall shrub, perhaps indicating lack of fire. Only occurrence of Oak / Heath known in Park. Surrounding tidal marsh is dominated by Spartina alternifolia and Spartina cynosuroides.
O: 0 -10 cm root mat with organic material - variable coverage within sample. Sand and gravel patches also on surface
A: 0 - 2 cm Dark organic soil
2 + cm yellowish brown loam with sand and clay
