Observation Narrative
No groundwater discharge sites are present, but the vegetation indicates seasonal contact with groundwater. Shallow inundation during spring also seems to occur. Many of the plants present indicate alkaline/high conductivity soil conditions. These plants include Cirsium muticum, Lythrum alatum, Scleria verticillata, Scirpus pendulus and Gentiana andrewsii. Additional plants known to occur in this wetland are Menyanthes trifoliata, Cladium mariscoides, Carex prasina, Carex tetanica and Maianthemum stellata.
Plot situated in western edge of the marshy vegetation, south of Norfolk and Western Railroad, 0.45 mi south of junction of US 340 and Rt. 657.
