Observation Narrative
The interior of Cumberland Marsh contains several large, distinct dominance patches of Zizaniopsis miliacea, although these may not be as discrete and homogeneous as they appear from a distance. Corner 1 lies adjacent to lower marsh dominated by Pontederia cordata, Leersia oryzoides, and Amaranthus cannabinus; the boundary between these community types probably corresponds to a drainage channel. On the side of plot between corners 2 and 3, vegetation grades to similar low marsh containing scattered culms of Zizaniopsis and Zizania aquatica. Pontederia and Polygonum arifolium have experienced some senescence. Water depth ca. 25 cm at 12:00 noon.
From Nyssa biflora with gall ca. 1.5 m off ground: 33.3 m @ 92 deg to corner 1.
