Plot location: Beaver Impoundment at Pohick Loop Trail-Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge. There is a separate parking area for this trail off of Pohick Road.
See plot form for sketch of plot location.
The plot is at a drier edge of a non-tidal wetland/beaver pond with little standing water. It's succeeding into grassland vegetation. Leersia oryzoides is the dominant graminoid. No one Carex species dominates; there is a mix of several species. Peltandra and Alisma subcordata are in clumps within the plot. The surrounding forest is beech, Kalmia, and oak.
