Observation Narrative
Plot location: Along Accotink Creek toward Davison Airfield, Park at Farrar Road and enter the woods near the electrical station- the plot is NNW of the electrical station.
See plot form for drawing of plot location and such.
This plot was unable to capture many of the large trees in the immediate area. Several Lirios. (70-80cm DBH) occur just outside the plot, as well as large oaks. The floodplain of Accotink Creek supports some impressively sized trees (Beech, Oak, Lirio) but unfortunately the herb layer is totally dominated by exotics. Marginal pine plantings further degrade the area by introducing successional species and exotics. To the N&NW of the plot, a series of drainages, dominated by dense Lindera benzoin, lead to Accotink Creek.
This is a permanently marked plot.
