Observation Narrative
A pristine seepage swamp developed in the bottom of a narrow, somewhat sheltered ravine. The canopy trees are unusually large for this type of community and tuliptree, not usually an important tree in this type is dominant. The herb layer prominently features Helonias bullata, Carex collinsii and Parnassia asarifolia, three localized species whose occurrence together is considered floristically significant.
Plot location: Bottom of a short tributary ravine on west side of the south branch of Peumansend Creek, 0.8 miles NE of Broaddus.
