Plot location: Wooded hillside 0.3 miles SE of Byrd Grove Church.
Vegetation here is a dry-mesic mixed oak forest (Quercus alba, Quercus falcata, Quercus velutina) with Acer rubrum and Nyssa sylvatica-dominated understory. Patchy ericads (Gaylussacia baccata, Vaccinium spp.) and a few xerophytic graminoids are characteristic of the herb layer. This stand has recovered from selective logging in 1938. NOTE: this site is on property owned by the investigator and its land-use history has been researched. This is part of a five-plot transect (plots FLUV001-004 and 007) that crosses a low hill and associated variation in forest composition.
