Plot location: Wooded hillside 0.3 miles SE of Byrd Grove Church.
Plot represents oligotrophic mixed oak (Quercus alba, Quercus coccinea, Quercus falcata, Quercus velutina) vegetation with low, patchy ericaceous shrubs (Gaylussacia baccata, Vaccinium stamineum). Ilex opaca is prominent in the understory here, along with Acer rubrum. This stand has recovered from selective logging in 1938. NOTE: this site is on property owned by the investigator and its land-history has been researched. This is part of a five-plot transect (plots FLUV001-004 and 007) that crosses a low hill and associated variation in forest composition.
