Plot location: 0.25 miles SSW of Byrd Grove Church.
The habitat is a very gentle lower slope bordering a small ravine and stream. Soils are extremely acidic and infertile, supporting a mixed oak forest with relatively dense ericaceous colonies (Gaylussacia baccata, Vaccinium stamineum). Among oaks, Quercus coccinea is prevalent here, probably an artifact of selective logging in 1938. Fagus grandifolia is scattered in the understory and may represent a future successional trajectory. NOTE: the site is on property owned by the investigator and its land-use history has been researched. This plot is similar to FLUV001 and 002.
