Plot location: Wooded hillside 0.3 miles SE of Byrd Grove Church.
Habitat is a gentle ravine slope near the SW base of a low Piedmont hill. The forest here is characterized by a mixed overstory of mainly Fagus grandifolia and Quercus alba, and a very dense shrub layer composed of Kalmia latifolia and tree saplings. This stand has recovered from selective logging in 1938, and possibly also in the 1960's. NOTE: the site is on property owned by the investigator and its land-use history has been researched. This is part of a five-plot transect (plots FLUV 001-004 and 007) that crosses a low hill and associated variation in forest composition.
