Observation Narrative
Plot location: slope of tributary of Crooked Creek, just SE of Rt. 615, 0.1 miles S of its bridge over Crooked Creek.
Plot is situated on a convex, upper ravine slope that supports dry-mesic mixed hardwood forest. The stand is notably mixed, with several Quercus spp., Carya ovalis, Carya alba, Fagus grandifolia, and Liriodendron tulipifera in the overstory. Acer barbatum is prominent in the understory, perhaps representing a future successional trajectory. Scrambling vines of Vitis rotundifolia dominate the herb layer. This stand is quite young and appears to represent post-logging regeneration. Nearby areas have been clearcut recently.
