Observation Narrative
The plot is located on a steeply sloping, thinly wooded limestone outcrop at the top of massive cliff subtending Cedar Creek. Unlike plots FRED002 and FRED003, rock cover heavily constrains species richness in this sample. The rare suffrutescent herb Paxistima canbyi occurs in the plot. Just upslope, the forest is young and disturbed, and a well-worn trail is present, all of which has contributed to the presence of several invasive weeds on the cliff.
0-1 cm - leaf and needle litter
1-6+ cm - reddish brown silt loam
Soil in shallow patches over limestone, mostly on ledges and at top of cliff. No profile development.
