Observation Narrative
Plot location: off the "Oak-Hickory Trail" on the north-facing slope. South of the guard rail on Rt. 346.
A north-facing slope forest above the ravine bottom, which introduces some mesophytic species. A large Pinus strobus is at the plot edge. Betula lenta and Rhododendron maximum are the most characteristic species of the habitat/plot. To the west of the plot, the Rhododendron drops out and Liriodendron and Quercus alba presence increases. To the east of the plot, the slope decreases and the Rhododendron is less dense. A nice mesic hardwood forest - no oak-hickory as the trail name suggests, at least at this location.
