Observation Narrative
The habitat is located on a steep, sheltered, east facing slope with very fertile colluvial soils derived from underlying Helderberg limestone. The tree canopy is varied on the slope, but medium age to mature Acer nigrum and Tilia americana are constant and characteristic throughout. Herbaceous layers are extremely lush, although not particularly diverse. Altogether this is a fine example of a rich mixed hardwood forest on limestone.
Plot located on east foot of Morris Hill, just above National Forest boundary and dirt road, 0.4 mi NW of junction of Rts. 687 and 638.
