Observation Narrative
An old growth version of the Quercus rubra- Quercus alba and Carya sp. dominated submesotrophic to mesotrophic forests of higher elevation broad level sections of ridgetops and adjacent gentle to moderately sloping, mostly northwest-facing upper slopes, in both cases where there is abundant soil (vs. rock) and mesic conditions. This community, disturbed by roads and cutting, covers much of the northern Peters Mountain ridge as well.
Plot located ca. 0.4 mi southwest of Frozen Knob on Peters Mountain, just west of ridge crest, ca. 15 m northeast of large Quercus rubra with huge gall. Stake immediately southeast of double-trunked Carya ovata sapling.
