Observation Narrative
A mesic, mesotrophic version of a Quercus rubra and Quercus alba dominated medium high elevation sub-level ridge crest forest, growing on an unusually deep and stone free fine sandy loam, in a topographic saddle at a 3-point intersection of two ridges. The lush, tall herb layer is distinctive. Quercus alba is a minor component here probably due to logging some decades ago. Castanea dentata and Prunus serotina were also important in the canopy. There is at least one coppice habit Prunus serotina.
Plot located ca. 750 ft southwest of Thomas Spring and 200 ft S23W of parking area where state road first reaches crest of ridge saddle.
