Observation Narrative
A spring flows just below the surface at the plot. Because this area was selectively logged, it is difficult to reconstruct the original vegetation structure. I suspect, based on the presence of light demanding rare plants (Parnassia grandifolia, Sanguisorba canadensis, and Solidago uliginosa), that this area once had a woodland physiognomy, dominated by Pinus strobus and Acer rubrum. Seepage water is evidently high in dissolved magnesium and nutrient poor. This community occurrence is most similar to the Physocarpus opulifolius - Sanguisorba canadensis thickets along Meadow Creek.
Plot lies a few meters south of the creek in selectively logged area east of barbed wire fence, in a shrubby clearing where a spring enters the creek.
