Observation Narrative ? Plot location: N of Coal Road and E of Gum Springs Branch. Pond is located 220 m N of pipeline ROW and 0.3 miles NE of BM 1893. Field estimated from topo: (UTME): 666603 (UTMN): 4205735. Rock Types Present: bedrock covered by a thick alluvial fan of metasedimentary materials. Plot is located at the SW end of a large (> one acre) sinkhole pond. Although well drawn down on the date of sampling, this part of the basin clearly has a longer hydroperiod than the NE portion (cf. plot LOVE003). Vegetation is characterized by a mosaic of Cephalanthus occidentalis thickets and herbaceous patches dominated by Dulichium arundinaceum and Polygonum hydropiperoides. Many plants were desiccated following an exceptional dry summer.
