Observation Narrative
Plot located on south side of Mt. Pleasant, west of small stream which originates from the bottom of a steep, bouldery cove/hollow. Species richness is rather high on this south facing, steep mesotrophic slope. Lateral drainage of moisture and colluvial processes are no doubt responsible for enhanced fertility. This plot, at elevation of 3120 ft., is near the upslope/elevational limit of Quercus montana on Mt. Pleasant, higher elevations support primarily Quercus rubra.
Measured tree in plot (dbh in cm.): Quercus montana (72.5).
