Observation Narrative
This woodland vegetation occurs on rocky, sloping, ultramafic rock. Community trophic conditions are enhanced by the mid-slope position and lateral drainage. A dense tall shrub layer characterizes this vegetation. Clematis ochroleuca, Pellaea atropurpurea and Parthenium auriculatum indicate basic conditions. Species richness is quite high. According to the map in Conley (1985), this area is classified as ultramafic rocks of the Alligator Back Formation of the Lynchburg Group.
Plot located on steep, rocky slope ca. 0.2 mi north of the lookout tower.
