Observation Narrative ? Plot documents a stand of medium age Tsuga canadensis with some Betula allegheniensis. Soils here are evidently quite oligotrophic judging from the prevalence of ericads (Pieris floribunda, Kalmia latifolia) and the relatively low species richness (n=18). The herb layer sparse. Upper north slope of Slate Springs Mountain, on eastern flank of Shenandoah Mountain; plot located on west side of a narrow, north-facing spur, ca. 0.5 mi west of the summit of Flagpole Knob.
