This plot documents mesophytic forest vegetation similar to that in plots GROC003, GROC004, and GROC005. However, it was difficult to position the sampling area within a completely homogenous environment. As a result, the downslope three-fourths of the plot appears to have more calcareous soils than the upper one-fourth, which is in a transition zone to acidic oak-beech forest of the upland. Overall, the stand captured here is a tall, relatively mature forest with mixed overstory of Quercus spp., Carya spp., Fagus grandifolia, and Liriodendron tulipifera, and understory dominance by Acer barbatum and Fagus. Several calciphiles, including Ulmus rubra and Thalictrum dioicum are present.
