Observation Narrative
This plot captures a fragment of intact, compositionally representative forest in a highly disturbed, narrow floodplain. Exotics weeds, especially Alliaria petiolata, are common although indigenous species generally predominate. Phlox divaricata was abundant and in full bloom on the date of sampling. Although this stand was scarcely larger than 400 sq. m. and rather marginal for sampling, data were collected because of the paucity of good floodplain forest stands in the Arlington County part of the Potomac Gorge.
