Observation Narrative
This site is a dry-mesic ravine slope fairly high above Donaldson Run, a short distance above its mouth at the Potomac River. The George Washington Memorial Parkway is located between the plot and the river. A very large (105 cm dbh) Quercus alba dominates the overstory in the vicinity of the plot. Other oaks, Fagus grandifolia, Carya glabra, and Acer rubrum are associated in the overstory and understory. The herb layer is patchy but relatively diverse. Exotics appear to be spreading toward and into the plot from a disturbed area upslope.
