Observation Narrative
The plot is located on a steep, west to southwest facing bluff beset by small cliffs and ledges and subtended by Dry Run in a deep, narrow valley, 1.0 mi ESE of junction of Rtes. 609 and 624 and SE of Mikes Ridge. The plot encompasses two limestone ledge faces about 3-4 meters tall and centered on a steep mineral soil slope between them. Calcareous influences are most pronounced around outcrops in this valley due to an overburden of more acidic soils derived from interbedded sandstone. Like many other dry-mesic calcareous forests, this stand exhibits remarkable floristic diversity and species richness (n= 84).
