Observation Narrative
A maturing second growth cove hardwood forest with well formed trees. The lower woody and herbaceous layers are quite rich and diverse and contain good recruitment of the canopy species Acer nigrum, A. saccharum and Carya cordiformis. The habitat is a very steep and rocky slope; a small spine of limestone outcrops marks the western edge of the plot, while a very stony, linear erosion feature caused by a flash flooding down slope is located in the eastern portion of the plot.
Plot located on a lower, NE-facing slope along unnamed stream and Rt. 626, ca. 0.3 mi SE of the Cowpasture River and just south of a bridge on Rt. 626.
