Observation Narrative
This plot is located in the most mature portion of a dry mesic mixed hardwood forest on SE facing limestone slopes bordering Lake Moomaw, ca. 0.1 mi SW of confluence of Mill Creek and Lake Moomaw. Acer saccharum, Quercus rubra and Carya spp. characterize the overstory, with lesser coverage by associated Liriodendron tulipifera, Quercus velutina, Q. alba, Carya ovata, Carya cordiformis and Fraxinus americana. Elsewhere on the slope, where the stand is much younger, Liriodendron greatly dominates. The site is notable for its large population of state rare plant Lithospermum latifolium.
