Plot location: Small stream bottom < 0.1 miles north of route 54, 0.5 miles west of junction with route 671.
Plot contains hummock and hollow microtopography.
The plot documents a small Piedmont bottom with two small stream channels. This habitat is saturated by groundwater inputs and may also be subject to occasional overland flooding. A second-growth palustrine forest with a mixed overstory of Acer rubrum, Liriodendron tulipifera, Liquidambar styraciflua, Ulmus americana, and Betula nugra now occupies this site. The species-rich herb layer contains high cover of Carex spp., Arisaema tryphyllum, Athyrium filix-femina, and the exotic pest Lonicera japonica.
