Observation Narrative
This stand lacks the herb biomass and noteworthy species of that sampled in Cabin Swamp, but species richness is nevertheless high. Here ferns rather than more nutrient-demanding forbs are the dominant herbs, which may reflect lesser influence of calcium-rich seepage. Cover of bryophytes (primarily Sphagnum and Polytrichum) is also much higher in this stand. Unusual plot dimensions were necessary to minimize inclusion of upland species in this narrow, sinuous seep. A portion of the plot almost certainly falls outside the NAP boundary. A small gap in present in module 1, and further canopy openings are located beyond and north of module 8 and in the lateral seep extending south of modules 6 and 7.
