Observation Narrative ? The vegetation of this plot is the most open sampled to date at Hickory Hollow. Fagus grandifolia attains the highest cover but is restricted to subcanopy strata. Both the herb and shrub layers are very open and sparsely vegetated. A trail runs generally parallel to the long axis of the plot, ca. 15 m west of the edge. Vegetation grades into more obvious successional forest with substantially higher cover of Diphasiastrum. Stakes G, H, I and J are conduit.
