Observation Narrative
Juncus roemerianus tidal mesohaline/polyhaline marsh. Plot is 50-100 ft away from tidal creek several meters wide. Throughout community is network of inlets < 1 m wide, up to 30 cm deep, with current flowing through, and occasional openings of several to 20 sq. m with Spartina alterniflora dominant. Nest observed in Juncus - probably least bittern.
7 - water level at what appears to be high tide (11:00 AM EDT)
0 - 63 - firm muddy peat (H4 on Van Post scale), with a little fine sand
63 - 68 - looser, well-decomposed peat (H8) with coarse rhizomes and a small mineral component
68 - 78 - very firm, grey-colored clay, with a little sand
78 - similar but with yellow mottles
