Observation Narrative
Plot located at the head of a cove, just below the mountain crest. Apparently fertile soils here support a young but fairly diverse northern hardwood forest with a rich herb layer. Fraxinus americana and Aesculus flava are the dominant trees, while Laportea canadensis dominates the late season herbaceous flora. This stand was severely disturbed (possibly clearcut) by logging in the past and is currently being invaded by the noxious, shade tolerant exotic forb Alliaria petiolata.
Upper east slope of Brumley Mountain, ca. 0.8 mi southeast of Low Gap. Plot located in an upper slope cove just below the main access road that runs SSE from Low Gap.
