Observation Narrative ? Habitat and vegetation of this plot is similar to those of Plot JRNF023, except that the habitat has a NNE aspect (vs. SE), and there is a slightly lower cover of Rhododendron catawbiense and considerably higher cover of Menziesia pilosa. The habitat is situated on a shelf/ledge that could be directly accessed. However, plot boundaries, species presence and cover and other parameters could be visually estimated from a clifftop vantage point adjacent to ad about 8-10 meters in elevation above the plot area, which approximated 100 sq. m. Herbaceous layer composition, although extremely sparse, was evaluated using binoculars. Plot located on upper north slope of a rocky promontory on Wilburn Ridge, 1.0 mi northwest of Massie Gap.
