Observation Narrative ? Plot located in a nice, all age red spruce forest with tall, well formed canopy trees. There is little evidence of spruce decline or mortality in this stand, and prolific spruce reproduction is characteristic of the shrub and herbaceous layers. Plot located on upper southeastern slope of Whitetop Mountain, ca. 0.1 mi ENE of a sharp bend in Forest Service road from Rt. 600 to summit and downslope from abandoned route of the Appalachian Trail, 0.25 mi SSE of the summit.
