Observation Narrative
Habitat is a densely vegetated north slope supporting "northern hardwoods" of somewhat unusual composition. Large specimens of Fagus grandifolia and Magnolia fraseri dominate the canopy, the latter suggesting heavy disturbance (logging) in the past. The very dense shrub layer is divisible into distinct tall (>2 m.) and low (<1.5 m.) substrata dominated by Acer pensylvanicum and Viburnum lantanoides, respectively.
Plot located in the western portion of the Iron Mountains near Cherry Tree Camp, just downslope of Iron Mountain Trail (old FR 301) at a point 0.2 mi ESE of its junction with FR 84, 0.8 mi southeast of Round Top summit.
