Observation Narrative
Plot location: ridge at top of bluffs along James River, 0.6 miles S of Norwood.
Field estimate from topo: (UTME): 693478 (UTMN): 4167602.
A very oligotrophic mixed oak/heath forest with scattered associates of Pinus pungens and Pinus virginiana. The site is a nearly level ridge crest with extremely acidic, nutrient-poor soil and a history of fires. Only one true herb (Monotropa uniflora) occurs in the plot, which has notably low species-richness (n = 15).
