Observation Narrative
Plot location: S-facing slope of knob along E side of Roanoke River at upper end of Kerr Reservoir.
The mapped geologic substrate appears to be in error, as outcrops and boulders on this hillside appear to be metasedimentary, and clearly not gabbro. The vegetation on this dry, convex, S-facing slope is a post-logging mixed oak forest with trees up to ca. 45 cm DBH. The herb layer is very sparse and consists mostly of woody seedlings. A notable feature of this stand is a population of Styrax grandifolius, with numerous low shrubs and seedlings present.
