Observation Narrative
Plot captures a low, abrupt, river- fronting slope of the bedrock terrace northwest of Black Pond. Substrate is 90% metagrawacke, with a few pockets and crevices of soil and organic material. The vegetation is a rather sparse prairie with a diverse scattering of shrubs. The centrum of this plot lies only about 3 m in elevation above the river and at least the downslope portion is scoured every year or two. Grimmia laevigata is the dominant bryophyte on portions of the outcrop that are seasonally or periodically wet with seepage and surface runoff.
