Observation Narrative
The plot captures herbaceous vegetation of a high sand bar in a cove along the shore of the Potomac River north of Black Pond. A small bedrock pond is located just east of the bar, while the shore to the west is forested with a fringe of Platanus occidentalis and Acer saccharinum. This bar is probably flood-scoured every year but is relatively stable and exposed for much of the growing season. The exotic Datura stramonium abounds here, along with Eupatorium serotinum, Solanum carolinense, and Teucrium canadense.
