Observation Narrative
Plot captures a small fringe of natural forest on a short slope and upland bordering a tidal creek. An agricultural field is located to the west. This site may represent a shell midden, as numerous small shells and shell fragments are present in the upper soil horizon. Soil calcium content here is much higher than in other samples collected from this area (plots MATH001 and 002), although not high by absolute standards. Nevertheless, the calciphilic tree Quercus muhlenbergii is a noteworthy component of this stand.
