Observation Narrative
This plot captures a zone of Nuphar advena at the end of transect #5. This tidal flat is irregular in shape and interrupted in extent. The broadest expanse of more or less continuous vegetation dominated by Nuphar is ca. 30 m. This dominance patch extends inland along a tidal channel immediately upstream from the transect. The cover of aquatic vegetation at substrate surface (which is exposed at low tide but generally submerged) is nearly continuous. Identification of all species composing this stratum and accurate estimation of cover are suspect. Water depth is ca. 2-3 cm at riverside edge of plot at low tide.
wet, mucky, silty clay with considerable fibric organic matter; much higher clay content that similar sites; fragments of shell, wood, and especially what appears to be shale present throughout soil profile
