Observation Narrative
Unusual circumstances call for unusual plot design; no choice was ideal in this situation. Like transect #5, transect #2 ends with a narrow zone dominated by Eleocharis quadrangulata and Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani, although here that zone is very short. One the downstream side the vegetation ends abruptly at a tidal channel ca. 6 m from the plot, and upstream vegetation grades into dominance by Typha angustifolia, which extends into the interior of the marsh. The inclusion of two sedimentation tiles within the plot was all but unavoidable. Some senescence of Eleocharis and other species has already occurred.
Wet, mucky, dark gray silty clay, with abundant fibric organic matter; there appear to be lenses of more organic-rich and more clay-rich soil as profile descends
