Observation Narrative
Plot is situated on a peninsula of low marsh at the interior end of transect #3 and is surrounded by a sinuous tidal channel on three sides. The vegetation is dominated by Leersia oryzoides, Peltandra virginica and Polygonum punctatum, with scattered taller stems of Typha angustifolia, Hibiscus moscheutos and occasional Spartina cynosuroides. Microtopography is uneven, with several small rivulets and deeper holes. The former seem to be higher order drainage channels, but the latter could be associated with muskrat activity. Much of the Leersia and Polygonum are already senescent.
