Observation Narrative
Vegetation is dominated by Pontederia cordata, Schoenoplectus pungens and Eleocharis quadrangulata and forms a band 5-10 m wide along the river's edge in this portion of Gleason Marsh. Osmunda regalis var. spectabilis in the plot is part of a larger clump that occurs between this vegetation type and a zone of Spartina cynosuroides. Spartina dominates much of the interior of this section of Gleason Marsh and forms a mosaic with shrub-scrub vegetation. One distinct drainage channel appears to flow through the plot area.
0 - 1 - brown silt
1 - 10 - dark gray, silty clay
10 - higher silt and clay content and generally much less organic matter; dense root mat of Pontederia cordata
