Observation Narrative
Plot location: Near top of bluff bordering W side of Bull Run floodplain, 0.6 miles NW of Stone Bridge.
No surface rocks present.
This plot is representative of sterile hemlock-white pine-oak forests that occupy the upper part of a N to E-facing bluff along Bull Run. Most oaks in this stand are in the overstory, while the understory consists largely of abundant hemlock and white pine. Herbaceous plants are very sparse. Hemlock adelgids are present at low levels but constitute a severe threat to this forest.
