Observation Narrative
A naturally open, dolomite grassland on the crest and upper slopes of a broad, southwest-facing spur ridge. The open grassy vegetation is maintained by stressful (droughty) edaphic conditions. It is a beautiful prairie-like area regarded by the landowner (Becky Batton) as her paradise. Soils are gravelly, dark-colored and friable. The federally endangered Echinacea laevigata thrives here.
Plot located in the center of glade on hill directly southeast of Batton residence. Species noted as occurring outside the plot were recorded from this site by Tom Wieboldt on 28 July 1993.
