Observation Narrative
The plot captures herbaceous vegetation on the slightly elevated rim of a ~ one-acre sinkhole pond. It is located near the NE corner of the large wetland opening, near the trees that separate that opening from a smaller one to the north. The plot is marked by red-flagged rebar stakes at each corner. Excepting one shrub of Diospyros virginiana that was not killed by a recent fire, vegetation ranges from 0.01 to 0.5 m tall. Eleocharis acicularis forms a nearly continuous turf throughout most of the plot. On the north side of the plot, where soils have been exposed longer, vegetation is taller and dominated by Agrostis perennans.
0-1 cm - mixed organic matter
1-10 cm - medium- to dark-brown silt loam
