Plot location: ca. 0.3 miles NNE of the jct of the intracoastal waterway and a powerline ROW, 1.4 miles ENE of Centerville Road Bridge and 120 meters west of the powerline. Plot center marked with a 1" white PVC pipe.
The extensive, non-riverine peatland habitat and secondary Acer rubrum-dominated swamp forest of this plot closely resemble those of the Great Dismal Swamp. Some relatively large (>70cm DBH) Acer rubrum and Nyssa biflora occur here, indicating that logging took place long ago. Nearby, large and widely scattered Taxodium distichum, including one 175cm DBH, are relicts of the original vegetation.
